About the Day of Year Calculator

The Day of Year Calculator returns the ordinal day number of a date, where January 1 is day 1 and December 31 is day 365 or 366 in a leap year.

Alongside the day number it shows how many days remain in the year, the ISO week number, the calendar quarter and a progress bar for the percentage of the year that has elapsed.

Ordinal dates are widely used in data files, ordinal timestamps and scientific work. Every value is computed locally in the browser.

Frequently asked questions

What is an ordinal date?
An ordinal date is the year plus the day number within the year, for example day 60 of 2026. January 1 is day 1.
How many days are in the year?
A common year has 365 days and a leap year has 366. The calculator uses the correct total for the year you select.
Does the day number account for leap years?
Yes. In a leap year February 29 is counted, so dates from March onwards have a day number one higher than in a common year.
