About the Ideal Weight Calculator

There is no single perfect weight, but several formulas estimate a healthy target based on your height and sex. This calculator shows four of the most widely used: Devine, Robinson, Miller and Hamwi.

It also gives an average of the four so you have a simple single figure, in both kilograms and pounds.

Results are guides, not strict targets, and do not account for muscle mass or body composition. Everything is calculated in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Why do the formulas give different numbers?
Each formula was developed from different data and assumptions, so they vary slightly. The average gives a reasonable middle estimate.
Is ideal weight the same as a healthy weight?
Not exactly. Ideal weight formulas are height-based estimates; a healthy weight also depends on body composition, age and overall health.
Do these formulas apply to children?
No. These adult height-based formulas are not suitable for children or teenagers, who need age- and sex-specific growth charts.
