Deterministic checks

Use the checks with human judgment. Strong packaging still depends on an accurate idea, readable text, a clear subject and alignment with the video.

About the YouTube Thumbnail Readability Analyzer

YouTube Thumbnail Readability Analyzer creates four views of one local thumbnail: full colour, a smaller feed preview, grayscale and soft focus. Together they help expose weak hierarchy, colour-dependent separation and details that disappear when the card becomes small.

The report also measures source dimensions, average pixel brightness, luminance spread, high-change edge density and near-black or near-white clipping. These are deterministic whole-image signals rather than AI judgments.

The tool cannot read thumbnail text, identify a subject or predict clicks. Thresholds are review prompts only, so combine them with human inspection and an accurate match between the thumbnail, title and finished video.

Key features

  • Full, small, grayscale and soft-focus previews
  • Source dimensions and 16:9 check
  • Average luminance measurement
  • Global contrast-spread measurement
  • High-change edge-density estimate
  • Extreme dark and light clipping estimate
  • Explicit pass and review prompts
  • No face detection, OCR or CTR prediction

How to use

  1. 1Choose the final JPG, PNG or WebP thumbnail draft.
  2. 2Inspect the tiny and softened previews before relying on the numeric checks.
  3. 3Review dimensions, contrast spread, edge density and clipping prompts.
  4. 4Revise the original design in your editor if its main idea or text becomes unclear at small size.

Examples

Check a detailed gaming thumbnail
Input: A 1280 × 720 image with several characters, effects and outlined text
Output: Small, grayscale and softened views plus deterministic pixel metrics

Use the edge-density prompt to revisit clutter, then make the final decision visually.

Frequently asked questions

Does the analyzer read text in my thumbnail?
No. It does not run OCR or judge spelling, font size or wording.
What does edge density mean?
It estimates how often nearby sampled pixels change sharply. A high value can indicate detail or complexity, but it is not automatically bad.
Is a passed check a guarantee of good performance?
No. These are technical review prompts, not quality, CTR or ranking predictions.
Where is analysis performed?
The image is decoded and sampled locally in your browser.
