About the English to Sanskrit Typing

English to Sanskrit Typing lets you write Sanskrit in Devanagari without a special keyboard. Type the sounds in English letters using the ITRANS-style scheme and the tool converts them to Devanagari (संस्कृतम्) as you type.

Double a vowel for its long form, use capital letters for the retroflex consonants, and combine consonants to form conjuncts. A built-in guide shows the common mappings.

Everything runs in your browser and stays private. Copy the Sanskrit output and paste it wherever you need it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I form conjunct consonants?
Type consonants together with no vowel between them and the tool joins them with a virama, for example nt gives न्त.
How do I type long vowels?
Double the vowel letter, so aa gives आ, ii gives ई and uu gives ऊ.
Is this transliteration or translation?
It is transliteration: it converts the sounds you type into Devanagari and does not translate the meaning.
